There can be little else as random as a fragment of shell picked up on an Atlantic facing Sligo beach. You can gather up a hand full of fragments and pick out pieces that are at once suggestive, map like, or showing textures and patterns of the creature that had created them. With these stud earrings Martina has taken a few such random shapes, ones that seemed new enough but that had obviously been well broken apart by the force of storm, where the ridges of the shell had not yet been worn down to a softer texture.
