Threads of Myth and Memory: Introducing the Síoda Collection

Threads of Myth and Memory: Introducing the Síoda Collection

This winter, Martina Hamilton unveils her latest collection, Síoda; a luminous celebration of myth, memory, and the art of handcrafted jewellery. Handmade in our Sligo studio from recycled silver and gold, the collection draws inspiration from ancient Irish craft and the timeless elegance of silk threads.

Inspiration Woven in Silk

Síoda (the Irish word for silk) began as a single thread of inspiration. Last year, while bringing two exhibitions by Irish visual artists to China, Martina was invited to visit a traditional silk workshop near Shanghai. She was struck by the extraordinary strength and delicacy of silk; a single filament can stretch up to a mile in length.

This experience sparked reflections on the threads that weave through Irish mythology; threads of fate, binding, and connection, linking gods, goddesses, and mortals alike. In Síoda, these invisible ties are reimagined in precious metal, celebrating the resilience and beauty that endure through time.

From Myth to Metal

Síoda’s forms recall the elegant spindle and the weaver’s art, shaped into flowing, tactile designs that nod to Ireland’s ancient torcs; the gold and silver neckpieces once worn as symbols of influence, protection, and lineage.

Martina explains:

“Our ancient forebears, across the Bronze and Iron Ages, adorned themselves with torcs not just as ornamentation but as expressions of identity, spirit, and heritage. I wanted Síoda to capture that same sense of continuity; of threads handed down, binding generations, alive with story and meaning.”

Each piece carries Martina’s signature sculptural texture, giving the metal a deeply etched, lustrous finish that feels both ancient and contemporary.

Handcrafted in Sligo

Every Síoda design is handmade in our Sligo workshop using recycled silver and gold, continuing our commitment to sustainability. Each piece is hallmarked by the Irish Assay Office, a guarantee of authenticity and craftsmanship.

The collection includes a suite of stud earrings, drop earrings, pendants, and rings, anchored by a standout signature bracelet. These designs invite touch; elegant, tactile, and evocative of the natural and mythic landscapes, and the immortal threads that inspire Martina’s work.

A Continuum of Craft

For over 35 years, Martina Hamilton has created collections that connect the contemporary with the ancestral; jewellery grounded in Irish heritage yet alive with modern expression. Síoda joins this lineage as both tribute and evolution: a thread linking myth, artistry, and destiny.

We invite you to explore the Síoda Collection at our store, The Cat and The Moon in Sligo, or browse the collection online to experience these timeless new designs.
