My Newgrange collection was the first design I created when starting my career as a designer over 30 years ago. After finishing art college where I studied sculpture, I visited the world famous megalithic sites at Newgrange, Knowth and Dowth, on Irelands east coast. Here I saw great rocks with carvings our ancestors had made on them, over 5000 years ago. I found myself taking rubbings from the stones and once back in Sligo I started work on my Newgrange Collection. With the design I wanted to emulate in precious metals weathered, rain polished yet beautiful feel of the raw stone, . This reflexive response to the to the natural touch and feel of a stone or a shell, a twig or leaf has stayed with me throughout my career creating jewellery. I owe much and am very grateful to an ancestor from over 5000 years ago, who carved into those rocks at Newgrange.
